Hello, my name is Rachel (they/them) and I’m an artist, researcher and community facilitator.
I work on, around and between the future, attending to a few of the infinite possibilities, uncertainties and subversions the moment beyond this present moment offers us.
The future is a magically vast thing to work on. It takes me into the intersections of climate, ecology and embodiment, manoeuvring fields of live performance, environmental conservation and somatic research.
I hold movement, in its various forms, as a gentle provocation towards more lively, present and compassionate ways of being and living in the world. My work foregrounds this thing we call movement, as a practice for earthly life, and for futurity.
I make, think and facilitate. I work with artists, researchers, students and communities in myriad roles and configurations. I like to work on my feet, outdoors, with other people, as well as online.
I have shared movements and thoughts on movement at the University of Chichester, the Royal Central School of Speech & Drama and at the Dartington College of Arts.
I have performed across the UK, including at The Pleasance Islington, Royal & Derngate Northampton, Bussey Building and Camden People’s Theatre.
Some of my words on movement, the imagination and the future can be found in Superstore Wilderness (2023) and in JAWS. My photography also gets around, and has been fortunate enough to win awards. (ESRC, 2015)
You can find me in other places: as Communications Manager for Trash Free Trails, and as Co-Initiator of the Dartington & Schumacher Alumni Community.
